[Subtitle] Andy Kim, Senator Andy Kim, Korea, Koreans, the United States, and the Constitution of the United States of America.

Andy Kim was elected as the first Korean American Senator of and in the United States. As Senator Kim already know, or as he must, may, or can know, we really recommend that he does NOT have to try to help the Republic of Korea intentionally, deliberately, calculatively, or conspicuously. All that he has to do is just to continue to show his allegiance towards the United States Constitution.

The writer of this editorial and the editor and publisher of this newspaper(The American Newspaper) is one of the Korean immigrants here in the United States, too. The only difference between Sen. Kim and the publisher is that Sen. Kim is the second generation of the immigration, and the publisher is the first generation of the immigration. That means that both of them have Korean roots and are such descendants of the Korean ancestors.

When the publisher decided to immigrate to the United States, and decided to be, voluntarily, proudly, and in an imposing or dignified manner, one of the core members, participants, contributors, and eventually patriots here on this soil, he decided to repect and perform the pledge of the allegiance, loyalty, and fidelity towards the U.S. Constitution.

That is the desirable, mature, wise, and legal way how the Korean immigrants or their descendents not only contribute to this American society, but also really help, requite, or make requital towards their native soil, where they came from and, whose name is the Republic of Korea(South Korea).

[Subtitle] In terms of Hegseth confirmation hearing.

Mr. Pete Hegseth(born in 1980) has been nominated on or about November 12, 2024 by President-elect Donald J. Trump(born in 1946) to serve as United States Secretary of Defense in his second cabinet. Hegseth appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee on January 14, 2025 for the confirmation hearing.

Mr. Hegseth was born in Minneapolis in the great State of Minnesota. They say that Hegseth has been active in conservative and Republican politics since his undergraduate days at Princeton University. His senior thesis at Princeton was titled “Modern Presidential Rhetoric and the Cold War Context”.

Hegseth joined the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at the university. He was a national guardsman. He was deployed in Cuba, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He worked as a capital markets analyst at Bear Stearns. He was a political commentator for Fox New, and a weekend co-host of Fox & Friends. He is the author of several books.

The President of the United States is the Commander of the Armed Forces. And the Article II. Section 2. Clause 2. of the United States Constitution says, “and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law”.

It is said that the United States Department of Defense (USDOD, or DOD) is an executive branch department of the federal government of the United States charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the U.S. government directly related to national security and the United States Armed Forces.

U.S. Department of Defense is, according to the Wikipedia encyclopedia, the second largest employer in the world, with over 1.4 million active-duty service personnel, including soldiers, marines, sailors, airmen, and guardians. The Department of Defense also maintains over 778,000 National Guard and reservists, and over 747,000 civilians, bringing the total to over 2.91 million employees. Its annual budget is said to be about or more than $842 billion in the fiscal year of 2024.

The Department of Defense is headed by the Secretary of Defense, a cabinet-level head who reports directly to the President of the United States. The legal roles and power of the Secretary of Defense are mentioned in the federal law which is the title 10 U.S.C. § 113.

Donald Trump is the President-elect and will be inaugurated as the 47th president on January 20, 2025. And Pete Hegseth has been nominated as United States Secretary of Defense in his second cabinet by the President-elect. On January 14, 2025, Hegseth was at the center of a political row over the confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In this editorial, we present our opinion or views in terms of the standard or criteria for the job of the Secretary of the Department of Defense. We propose or suggest three(3) standards or criteria for the job. They are STRATEGIC INSIGHTS(strategic insights), LEADERSHIP(leadership), and MORAL INTEGRITY(moral integrity).

First, does Hegseth have strategic insights? Strategy is about choices and their focus. Insight is about the ability to understand the true nature of something. Such strategic insights are essential elements which are required to perform the job of the Secretary of Defense because defending the United States is not only extremely important but also hugely difficult, demanding, tough, or challenging.

Second, does Hegseth have such leadership qualities which are required to lead such a huge and important organization? U.S. Department of Defense has astronomical level of financial responsibility and enormous numbers of employees. Anyone cannot lead such a huge and important organization without excellent or outstanding skills of leadership.

Third, does Hegseth have the moral integrity which is indispensable to secure the function of the organization? “Moral” is about concerning or relating to what is right and wrong in human behavior. “Integrity” is about the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Anyone cannot lead such an huge and important organization without such a indispensable qualities because the Secretary of Defense should secure such voluntary and sincere followship towards his or her leadership both within and from the organization.

We present, suggest, or propose these three(3) key elements for the inevitable factors which are indispensable or essential for performing the job of United States Secretary of Defense.

It is up to the Senate whether Hegseth should serve for the job or not.

[Editorial] State Farm Insurance in the United States (January 9, 2025).

Founded in 1922, State Farm is, according to the Wikipedia encyclopedia, the largest property, casualty, and auto insurance provider in the United States. State Farm is said to be ranked 39th or 42nd in the 2024 Fortune 500, which lists American companies by revenue.

The encyclopedia says that Michael L. Tipsord is the Chairman of the company. And Jon Farney is the President & CEO(chief executive officer) there.

Mr. Tipsord was said to be born on or about June 20, 1959 and raised in Illinois, graduated with a B.S. degree summa cum laude in 1981, from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, and a J.D. degree in 1984 magna cum laude from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Tipsord replaced Edward B. Rust Jr. as chairman on September 1, 2015.

Mr. Jon Farney was said to receive a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Illinois State University, Normal and earned his MBA from the University of Michigan. Farney joined State Farm in 1993 and has served in a variety of executive leadership positions including assistant vice president – securities products, assistant vice president – planning & analysis, vice president – financial operations and operations vice president – underwriting.

These indivisuals were and are the CEOs of the company in record. They were and are George J. Mecherle 1922–1937 (14 years), Raymond Mecherle 1937–1954 (16 years) Adlai Rust 1954–1970 (15 years), Edward B. Rust Sr. 1970–1985 (14 years), Edward B. Rust Jr. 1985–2015 (29 years), Michael L. Tipsord 2015–2024(about 10 years), Jon Farney 2024–present.

Michael L. Tipsord (Chairman) and Jon Farney (President & CEO) can or should explain why State Farm has been so much or extremely hated in the United States of America.

State Farm is arguably one of the most hated, detested,disliked, or despised companies, by the general public, in the United States.

Nuclear weapons, ICBM(intercontinental ballistic missile), martial law, impeachments, South Korea, North Korea, China, the United States, the Korean War in 1950, espionage & spies, 2018 North Korea–United States Singapore Summit, 2019 North Korea–United States Hanoi Summit, music, indirect invasion, chaos, and instability. What do these words have in common?

Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol has served as the 13th and current president of the Republic of Korea, since 2022, which is known and called as “South Korea”. President Yoon declared a martial law in South Korea on December 3, 2024.

The National Assembly passed an emergency motion nullifying the declaration of the martial law several hours after Yoon’s speech. The impeachment process is underway. And the motions of other government officials’ impeachment cases were already passed in the National Assembly.

The INDIRECT(“indirect”, emphasis added) approaches, strategy, and invasion by and from North Korea were not well known to the world as well as to the general public(arguably both innocent/naive, and stupid) in South Korea. But such approaches were so effective and efficient. They were so effective enough to end up deceiving a lot of indivisuals in South Korea.

All of the unstable and chaotic situations seem to be originated from the North’s political and military will to invade and conquer the South someday in the (long) future. Such basic and simple strategy of North Korea has never been changed since the end of the Korean War in 1953. However, its tactics continued to change, and ended up being evolved dramatically.

In a nutshell, the indirect invasion is, or appears to be the origin of the political and social chaos in today’s South Korea. Such strategy and tactics produced, produces, and/or will produce very destructive and chaotic results in South Korea when and because the strategy, devices, tools, agents or secret agents, and proxy were, chemically and successfully, fused with the OCHLOCRACY(“ochlocracy”, emphasis added) of and in South Korea.

The process and the result of the presidential election in 2024 showed that the current status of the modern politics in the United States arguably has some elements of the state of OCHLOCRACY.

According to the Wikipedia encyclopedia, it was said that ancient Greek political thinkers regarded ochlocracy as one of the three “bad” forms of government (tyranny, oligarchy, and ochlocracy) as opposed to the three “good” forms of government: monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy.

Those thinkers were said to have distinguished “good” and “bad” according to whether the government form would act in the interest of the whole community (“good”) or in the exclusive interests of a group or individual at the expense of justice (“bad”).

OCHLOCRACY appears to be in opposition to the good version of DEMOCRACY.

[PDF] Is the U.S. the country of democracy and the rule of law? The answer is.

Is the United States a democracy? Yes and no. Is the United States the country of the rule of law? Yes and no. What does that mean? What do these questions and answers mean exactly?

The United States is a democratic country in terms of institutional, nominal, ostensible, and outward aspects. Yes, it is a democracy. So-called “We the People” own the society. They vote and elect their elected government officials, and they are governed by those officials and by the consent of the governed.

The United States is the nation of the rule of law. It has Congress in Washingdon, D.C., and has General Assemblies in each States. It has so-called “Honorable” judges in the State level and Federal one. It has the laws which are the Constitution of the United States, State constitutions in the United States, statues, administrative laws, common laws, or case laws. Yes, it is the nation of the rule of law.

The United States may not be a democratic country in terms of substantial, actual, functional, internal, and fundamental aspects. No, it is not a democracy. All of people don’t vote necessarily. The political perception of those voting people are contaminated or distorted by the political propaganda of very cunning political mechanism & machine. At the end of the day, money talks in American politics. Big corporations and their money rule politics directly or indirectly, or at least have very powerful influence on American society.

The United States may not be the nation of the rule of law in terms of functional and fundamental aspects. No, it is not the country of the rule of law. Politicians make such laws which are against the interests of general public. Legislative process tends to be bargained, traded, negotiated, and haggled through the process of lobbying. Absolute majority of general public actually doesn’t know what kinds of laws are being made or discussed. That is the reality.

And so-called “Honorable” judges interpret laws arbitrarily and hide themselves in the name of judicial discretion or interpretation. It is suspected that the deals of bribery are traded behind the curtains or under the tables.

At the core, there exist the social problems of American Greed and American Corruption. The greed and corruption deprave politicians, judicial officials, and government officials, who are extremely selfish and very greedy, and who don’t care about others, general public, or the public interest of the whole society. Corrupt and greedy corporations fuel and orchestrate schemes, white-collar crime, hybrid crime, and sometimes physical & violent crime especially when such criminals or suspects in such organizations think they can’t hide their white-collar crime or hybrid one.

What kind of country is the United States? Is it a blessed country? Or is it a cursed nation? If political deception, social exploitation, and legal coercion continue to exist in this society, human history may record the U.S. as a country of failure, corruption, depravity, or decadence.

It is time for American citizens to provoke another American Revolution against powerful vested interests which are greedy, corrupt, irresponsible, disfunctional, antisocial, and even criminal.
